hello everyone! or should I say Good Evening? I just got offered a 13 week job at the hospital from a placement company. They are paying for plane ticket, housing(in the tourist area? they say it is safe?), all utilities included, and a rental car. $21 an hour, sounds like a good deal! Was wondering if anyone knows anything about the hospital, ie: good hospital? or bad? safe area? I would be coming by myself, and of course I am wondering about the crime I have been reading about, are they cracking down on it? or still the same? And how many earthquakes do you have down there? Aghhh....that scares me more I think! Any info you folks could give me would be helpful! Thanks! JoAnn
Almost everyone I know or have ever talked to about the hospital has negative things to say. Everything from treating white people badly to extreme negligence.
I've personally been to the hospital on a few occasions and besides the wait I found it to be just fine. But I don't work there. But I've heard horror stories.
Hospital Ground is not an area I would consider to be "safe" so I would just go in and out of work there.
We are on an earthquake fault here and get them all the time but never anything big so don't worry :)
Where is the housing they are putting you in?
Thanks Big Kahuna for the info.... I am not sure where the lodging is yet... I have not accepted the job, and still need to interview by phone with the hospital. I have read on yours and other blogs about the racism against whites. And I was wondering how good the hospital could really be? I figured it wouldn't be like in the states....Still all this and earthquakes or not, the lure of living on an island for 3 months is hard to resist.... just want to make a smart decision, not one I will regret.... I would hate to have my love of sand and sea turn sour on me!
I moved here 6 mths ago, and work at the hospital. I think the OR/Surgical staff are very good, the equipment is, for the most part, new, and my patients seem to appreciate the care they received. The Surgical floor is clean and bright, patients seem to get good post op care, and again, have heard positive feedback from my patients. So I guess it would depend on your personal work ethics-the hospital has many "travelers", as long as you realize it is a job just like any other job in a stateside hospital, just with better beaches, you will do fine. Unfortunetly, there are those that are lazy and are only here for the beaches, or because they can't get jobs anywhere else :( I can say the ER is a bit chaotic, and could stand some improvement, but care is good there. If you have other questions, feel free to ask!
hi everyone... thanks so much for all your info.... but I have accepted an full time offer from a local hospital,so I guess I won't be coming down to see your island! I really wish I was! But there is always VACATION! hope to be there soon!
