Hi! I have just made the decision to move to the island. I've researched and read just about everything. I've decided to just come down and wing it. No job, no car, no place to live. It will all work out! I need to know where to look to stay until I get settled. I appreciate your help! Looking forward to my new adventure!

I was just wondering when you are moving to the rock, and how long have you researched?? My boyfriend and I will be moving down in a few weeks. I read more and more posts everyday of taking a leap and moving to STT. Ultimately, I'd like to befriend other new comers online and as we get down to STT, so that we don't feel so alone in the venture. I will help you out with any info I have researched. As for your question, it truly is a personal preference with a lot of factors that play in. As repetitive as that seems, it's true. Just in my own personal journey of researching our move has brought out our own personal differences in preferences. For instance, I would be happy as a clam camping on STJ until finding an apartment/condo. Now my better half, well, it's out of the question in his mind. (lucky for him they are shut down when we arrive until the end of oct.) So a little more info would help. I will post info on places to stay/rent. Are you by passing the idea of staying in a hotel?? ~Cherie

WOW, I am relocating as well, 9/11/2010. I got a studio, with kitchen privileges, at Two Sandals By The Sea. Its near Red Hook; totally convenient to much on foot and the $2 trolley. I figure it will give me time to find permanent digs and get my bearings. Usually the best opportunities are word of mouth. Watch Craig's list, and then contact the listing person when you are there. Am looking on St John/St Thomas, but ultimately, my decision is based on internet, as I have a full time job that will continue down there. St John is quite expensive compared even to St Thomas. We should stay in touch here and make sure we meet up as we arrive. Having lived abroad already, having contact that this is great! Here's to us....willing to take a deep breath and follow a dream. See you on the rock, Ann

Ok. So after a sobering discussion with myself...my better judgement tells me to move back home with my folks and save for the next ten months so I can make the move. I had the same exact discussion with myself last year, only I didn't actually follow through with the move to the parents place :( Oh well. Here is hoping for June! Best of luck to you both as you follow ur dreams!

i'll tell ya what from experience. locals see a lot of people come and go real quick or get flighty like the last post. It will take a job and a few months of working for people to know you're not just a tourist. Investing in a friendship with someone who is just visiting kind of gets old after a couple times getting burned by someone that is just a on a working vacation and gone in a month. It's happened to everyone. Another tip do not go at the beginning of the season go at the end when a lot of people are leaving, like May or June.
