Keeping a big eye out for Igor!
I believe these two issues are extremely important to St. Thomas today. Here is a bit of our conversation:
Janette Millin Young Many thanks for your question and your interest in the process. My platform is heavily based on education reform and small business development. We have to change our education model to push for early education in in order to give our young people a fighting chance. Many successful people in society started school at 3 or 4 years old. For the later years, vocational and technical education must be available in greater numbers to allow for more opportunities for our young people to prepare themselves for meaningful career’s.
As a former small business owner, I will be a part tweaking the laws to ensure our business environment is as much or friendlier to small businesses as we are to big businesses. After all, small businesses employ many more people than all the big businesses put together in our community.
For more information, please feel free to contact me personally at 340-642-1152. See you at the polls and don’t forget to press #15, Janette Millin Young, Willing and Able!
Scott White Education is great and a talking point for just about everyone. But education takes decades to reduce crime. We have a serious crime problem today. Things we teach our kids now may not result in a crime decrease for literally 15 years. So what about now? Today. What can you do to help reduce crime in the next 2 years? We need to focus on the now first and education as a long term strategy.
Do you have any specific ideas to help small business? What laws are you looking at “tweaking”? Or do you have ideas for new legislation?
Janette Millin Young Sadly our social problems of today have taken many years to arrive to this point. It would be unrealistic to expect a senator to walk in to the Senate and propose a law or laws that will instantly curb the high incidence of crime. While the… early education plan will take care of our next generation, the other half of the plan is to ensure more vocational and technical education opportunities. I seek to be part of a team of capable individuals to ensure this becomes a reality.
But very important in this mix is active community involvement. Leaders lead. Again, you seem to be very interested in improving the quality of life in the territory. This community needs more individuals like you to be an active part of creating the needed changes. Leaders cannot work in a vacuum. Are you, too, willing to be part of the solution?
Going forward, I will work with advisory councils to be more inclusive in our plans to improve our quality of life.
Scott White What I’m finding is a vagueness about actual plans from almost all candidates. I think the person that steps up and says I’ll be specifically doing:
1. xyz
2. 123
etc. and then relates that to how it will truly effect us will be an easy person to vote for.
I write the St. Thomas Blog (http://www.stthomasblog.com) and Love To Lime Social Network (http://www.lovetolime.com) and our readers would love to know a lot more. I’ll post this conversation so people can comment in and you can respond. It should stir some comments, ideas and debate
What do you think St. Thomas? Is she on the right track? Do you want to know more? If so comment in
Special Note: The St. Thomas Blog is not endorsing or promoting any candidate. If other candidates would like to talk with us please email me at scott@stthomasblog.com as we’d be happy to hear what you have to say ![]()

What is QB1 you ask? Well it’s only the most awesome-ist game ever created for football fans. Here some info from their website:
QB1 is fun to play and easy to learn. You just need to decide if the offense will run or pass the ball on the next play and enter your prediction into your Playmaker. Get it right and you get points, guess wrong and you lose those points.
Now that we know the basics, let’s take it up a notch. Will he pass left, up the middle or to the right? Will it be a short pass or a bomb? Are they going to try to punch it through with their third down back?
The more accurate you predict the next play, the more points you earn if you get it right. Get it wrong and you guessed it, the more points you lose. Are you beginning to see the possibilities here? Football is no longer just about watching but rather, participating!
It’s now 4th and 5 and the offense is down by 4 points with 15 seconds left in the game. Will you call the long pass and hit the Gamebreaker button to double your reward if they go to the end zone? Do you suspect a delayed draw-play against an unsuspecting defense to get a new set of downs? Or will you play it safe and sit this one out, letting your opponents predict the play and possibly take the lead? The decision is yours and you will have a blast making it!
Nicci and I will be playing QB1 tonight at the Saloon, come and join us! I’m pretty good so be prepared for a butt kicking

Is it my understanding that WAPA will be taking Sunday (holy day) and Monday (Labor day) off? Can someone confirm this?
Is it also true that power on St. Thomas has not been restored everywhere yet? That consumers are still without power some 6 days after the storm?
Please, someone, anyone tell me this isn’t true?

Mr. Bradley is the co-founder and driving force behind the non-profit organization, My Brother’s Workshop, established in 2008 to provide paid training in basic building skills to economically disadvantaged youth. In space donated by the St. Thomas Reformed Church, Mr. Bradley teaches construction skills to young men aged 16 to 24. Since the program began, over 48 young men have participated in training and over 80 percent have either gained employment or re-enrolled in school. In nominating Mr. Bradley for the Community Award, Tim Abraham stated, “Scott has saved lives in U.S.V.I. Specifically, he has turned the lives around for dozens of young men to help them be a positive part of the community.”
Congratulations to Scott Bradley, second recipient of Southland Gaming of the Virgin Islands’ Community Award Program of $1,000!
